Goodrich adapts sensor for space

The US Naval Research Laboratory has awarded Goodrich a contract to adapt an imaging sensor, currently on the U2 surveillance aircraft, for use as space hardware.

‘By adapting existing sensor designs and technologies, we can provide the US armed forces with an ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) capability that is proven to be compatible with existing command and control infrastructures,’ said Ken Luczaj, president of Goodrich’s ISR Systems division.

The modified sensor is intended for use in Operationally Responsive Space (ORS) missions to assist military activities.

Goodrich’s imaging sensor was originally developed for the high-altitude U2. The modifications to the sensor for use in space will take place at Goodrich’s Electro-Optical Systems site in Danbury, Connecticut.
