The application, which will be submitted to Calderdale Council on December 18, will call for the current scheme of 23 turbines generating 9.2MW to be replaced by 10 turbines generating up to 23MW.
Elizabeth Ambrose, project developer at E.ON, said: ‘The turbines at Ovenden have been supplying reliable, clean, green power for over 15 years now.
‘But the fact of the matter is that turbine technology has moved on and we can now produce twice as much power with half as many turbines, which makes sense to us and will hopefully make sense to the council as well.’
If approved, the new scheme could generate enough electricity to power almost 13,000 homes, displacing the emission of more than 22,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.
