HMS Daring sets sail
The HMS Daring warship has left BAE Systems’ shipyard in Scotstoun to begin sea trials off the west coast of Scotland.
Launched in February last year, HMS Daring is the first of six Daring-class Type 45 destroyers being built for the Royal Navy.
Following the sea trials, HMS Daring will return to the Clyde for on-going integration and testing, before being delivered to the Royal Navy by the end of 2008.
As well as providing specialist air-warfare capabiity, the Type 45 destroyer can also serve as a general-purpose platform that can provide peace support and defence diplomacy.
The vessel is scheduled to enter service in 2009.
