ICE saves soldiers lives

Raytheon has been awarded $15.5 million in contract modifications to manufacture Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Countermeasure Equipment (ICE) systems.

Raytheon Technical Services Company (RTSC), a subsidiary of Raytheon, will manufacture and assemble the systems at its Indianapolis facility.

"IEDs are responsible for a large number of casualties for US forces in Iraq," said Robert Stevens, director of program management for the Indianapolis site. "ICE saves lives, and it is critical that these systems are deployed quickly.”

The ICE system was designed as a collaborative effort between the Army

Research Laboratory (ARL) at the White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, and the Physical Sciences Lab of New Mexico State University.

This award follows RTSC's successful completion of the manufacture and delivery of units identified in an initial contract. Technical details about how the system works are classified.
