In tune

Conexant Systems today announced what it says is the world's first dual-stream radio frequency satellite tuner.

Conexant Systems announced what is says is the world's first dual-stream radio frequency (RF) satellite tuner.

The low-power, direct down conversion CX24128 is intended for high-volume set-top box (STB) receivers used for personal and digital video recording (PVR/DVR) applications, and is shipping to customers now.

The CX24128 supports 8PSK and DVB-S2 advanced modulation and coding specifications, which provide satellite operators with higher data rates and increased capacity to deliver additional high-definition television (HDTV) channels and services using existing bandwidth and infrastructure.

In addition, the device also allows manufacturers to reduce bill-of-material (BOM) costs by integrating two tuners into the single device, while saving board space and simplifying RF design layout.

Conexant says the CX24128 dual-channel tuner delivers excellent phase noise performance and very low implementation loss, which are required for advanced modulation systems such as 8PSK and DVB-S2.Key features include an architecture that provides for up to 60 decibel (dB) isolation between the device's two tuner paths for better path-to-path protection.
