BAE Systems has been awarded $124.8m in US Army contracts to reset, upgrade and maintain M113 armoured vehicles.

has been awarded $124.8m (£75.7m) in US Army contracts to reset, upgrade and maintain M113 armoured vehicles.

Several contracts awarded to the company by the US military cover repairs and improvements on the combat-proven infantry vehicles.

The awards include $87.7m for the reset of 697 M113 vehicles, $23.3m for parts and materials, $7.8m for add-on armour and $6m for support and maintenance on the vehicles.

Work on these contracts will be performed at BAE Systems’s facilities in Anniston, Alabama; Aiken, South Carolina; and Fort Hood, Texas.

According to BAE Systems, more than 80,000 M113 armoured tracked vehicles have been produced, including more than 40 variants, and are used by at least 44 countries.

Each vehicle can transport 12 troops and a driver and is said to be capable of amphibious operation, extended cross-country travel over rough terrain and high-speed operation on improved roads and highways.
