Infineon becomes more mobile

Infineon Technologies has expanded its communications portfolio by acquiring the mobility products business of LSI Corporation for €330m plus a contingent performance-based payment of up to €37m.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2007 subject to approval, and does not include production facilities. However, 700 LSI employees will join Infineon.

LSI’s Mobility Products Group reported sales of €150m in the first half of 2007. Its products include mobile radio baseband processors and platforms that is said to complement Infineon’s existing portfolio.

‘This move demonstrates our commitment to maintain and grow our leadership in the wireless market. The business acquired from LSI will significantly strengthen our position as important mobile phone makers and will add highly qualified experts to the Infineon team,’ said Dr Wolfgang Ziebart, president and CEO of Infineon Technologies.

This acquisition represents one stage of Infineon’s plan to focus on and expand its business divisions of communications, energy efficiency and security.
