Instantaneous movement planning for robots

Planning the motion a robot can make safely without colliding with other objects is a complex task that can take up expensive processing time.

Engineers at Duke University in North Carolina have devised a system using Kinect controllers and custom chips that can predict possible clashes in milliseconds and create movement plans in real time, saving both processing time and energy, and possibly making it safer for robots t work with humans.In this video, George Konidaris and Daniel Sorin explain their system, developed with DARPA and the National Institutes of Health.
