Kinder Morgan Energy Partners has announced the continuation of its $400m expansion of the CALNEV pipeline system into Las Vegas, Nevada following approval of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
The FERC approved the proposed rate business structure, which covers the construction of a new 41cm diameter pipeline from Colton, California to Las Vegas.
According to Kinder Morgan, the pipeline would increase the system’s capacity to 200,000 barrels per day (bpd), and the addition of pump stations would build it up to more than 300,000bpd.
The 885km CALNEV pipeline system transports gas, diesel and jet fuel from Los Angeles refineries and marine terminals through 36cm and 20cm diameter pipelines that originate in Colton and extend to terminals in Barstow, California and Las Vegas.
After the expansion, the existing 36cm pipeline will replace the 20cm diameter pipeline to serve McCarran International Airport’s commercial jet fuel and any future commercial airports in Las Vegas.
The expansion is scheduled for completion in 2010.
