Laser Lines

A rubber oil seal had to be marked with a 10-character code only 1.25mm high. The set-up consisted of a Synrad laser, FH Series Flyer marking head and Synrad’s WinMark Pro software. The head had an 80mm focusing lens to provide a 116-micron spot with a 0.8mm depth of field. Text height was set at 1mm with 0.15mm of extra character spacing and a text radius of 54mm to match the seal’s curvature. With four complete passes in a total cycle time of 0.13 seconds, the rubber surface was vaporised ‘slowly’ in small increments, creating a very distinct mark.
