Last week's poll: Hadron collider restart

The Large Hadron Collider has restarted for a second series of experiments, colliding particles with twice the energy of its previous runs. Where are commercial spin-offs most likely to occur from its work?

Last week’s Poll saw 39 per cent of respondents seeing LHC’s commercial spin offs being developed “in an area related tangentially to its research”.

The option of communications spin-offs limped in last with three per cent of the vote, with medicine and imaging, and electronics or computing faring better with 12 per cent and 16 per cent respectively.

A total of 15 per cent thought commercial spin-offs would likely occur from its legacy of international collaboration, and the same number of respondents didn’t see any of the options given as viable.
