Lockheed Martin wins A-10 contract modification

The Lockheed Martin-led A-10 Prime Team has received a $40.4m contract modification to complete the A-10C Precision Engagement programme’s engineering and manufacturing development phase.

Work will continue through May 2008 to conclude development of the Precision Engagement software suite and to support flight testing conducted by US Air Force.

According to Lockheed Martin, the programme transforms the legacy A/OA-10 aircraft from an analogue aircraft to the enhanced digital A-10C configuration with new and improved combat capabilities

Precision Engagement enables the A-10C to use new precision-guided weapons such as the joint direct attack munitions (JDAM) and wind corrected munitions dispenser (WCMD). The upgrades also provide the attack jet with improved situational awareness, enhanced target identification and designation, improved stores management, adds two new multifunction colour displays (MFCDs), and fully integrates a targeting pod.
