New Danaher Motion Electronic Indexer Solution Set Doubles Throughput Achievable with Mechanical Indexers

The new Rotary Indexer Product Set from drive and control technology specialist Danaher Motion is a precise, repeatable and flexible solution in a compact, affordable package that delivers a significant increase in throughput compared mechanical indexers.

Mechanical indexers are notoriously inflexible for motion sequences as they are limited by a fixed number of sequence points at a fixed angle whereas Danaher Motion’s Rotary Indexer Product Set is quickly and easily programmed to go in any direction, at any speed, and at any angle. It can rotate both clockwise and counter clockwise to achieve the shortest cycle time and increased throughput. The index times are programmable and no homing is ever required, as absolute position feedback maintains position even under power cycling.

This means that system integrators have a single indexer solution to satisfy the design requirements of any number of machines, including custom-made models. Such flexibility could also benefit the end-user by allowing them to update the motion sequence to satisfy their application needs should the demands of the manufacturing process change. In addition, the configuration of precisely matched components ensures inter-operability and optimised performance as well as facilitating system selection and ordering and quick, easy system commissioning.

“The Danaher Motion Rotary Indexer Product Set provides unmatched operational performance and flexibility, allowing OEMs to build a better machine, faster,” according to Dennis Gallagher, Vice President of Systems For Danaher Motion. “End-users can precisely assemble even the smallest of parts faster with far less scrap and better yield, while actually lowering the cost of ownership over the life of the machine”

Dennis Gallagher also stated that this solution enables users to select motion sequences via software that makes the electronic indexer far superior to mechanical systems. Precision technology allows for superior repeatability to ±1.2 arc-sec, with no backlash, and system accuracy to ±26 arc-sec. In comparison, mechanical indexers typically provide best-case repeatability to ± 33 arc-sec and accuracy to ±66 arc-sec. Users will also benefit from a noticeable 20dB reduction in system noise when compared with mechanical indexers.

The new, fully programmable direct drive requires no maintenance over the entire life of the system whereas mechanical indexers require regular maintenance checks and service. This, combined with rapid system start-up, including Quick Start Guide, means the system, which is lubricated for life, offers the lowest total cost of ownership and highest level of performance of any rotary indexing option available today.
