Multi-Wing

has launched a range of sickle impellers into the

UK

market. Designed specifically to meet the demands of the

Noise Directive

, the sickle impellers can reduce noise by up to 4db.

The new sickle range was developed to satisfy the increasing demand for noise reduction in all areas of industry. The design of the sickle impeller reportedly creates a larger pressure at a lower RPM. This is due to both the leading point of the blade which ‘pierces’ the air first and the thin trailing edge that reduces drag, delivering significant noise reduction and increased efficiency.

The initial sickle range includes Z and W type impellers; the 1Z and 2Z are specifically designed for the heat exchange and engine cooling markets, whilst the 1W and 2W are targeted at the larger diameter refrigeration and fan markets. Two smaller diameter fixed pitch H types will be added for the heat exchange and fan markets in the first quarter of 2006.

The Z type impellers come in six different hub sizes with either 5, 7, 8, 9, 12 or 16 blades and have a diameter range from 405 - 895mm. They feature an adjustable pitch ranging from 20 – 45 degrees in 5 degree increments and are available for both clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation.

The W type impellers also feature six different hub sizes with either 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 or 10 blades, offering a diameter range from 550 to 1446mm. They have an adjustable pitch ranging from 20 to 50 degrees in 1 degree increments.

The blades come in a range of materials including the standard glass reinforced polypropylene (PPG); glass reinforced polyamide (PAG); industrial strength glass reinforced polyamide(PAGI) for heavy duty usage and finally anti static glass reinforced polyamide (PAGAS) for hazardous environments.
