BMW has announced that two new MINI models, including a two-seater MINI Coupé Concept, will be built at MINI Plant Oxford.

BMW has announced that two new MINI models will be built at MINI Plant Oxford.

One of the models is based on the MINI Coupé Concept and a concept of the second vehicle will be unveiled for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September.

The two-seater MINI Coupé Concept model will likely feature a 1.6-litre turbocharged MINI John Cooper Works powertrain. It will also have characteristics such as a low roof line, compact dimensions, axle load distribution and lightweight construction.

BMW are promoting the vehicle as the most dynamic and agile MINI ever built. The carmaker has not yet released details of the second model.

The two new models will join the existing Hatch, Clubman and Convertible on the production line at the Oxford plant.

Business secretary Lord Mandelson praised BMW’s announcement this week.

‘The production of the two new MINI models is very good news for Oxford, and for the UK car industry,’ he said. ‘It is a demonstration of BMW’s long-term commitment to the UK as it celebrates its 50th birthday this year.
