have signed a contract for the delivery of 49 rubber-tyred automatic metro trainsets with an option for 10 additional metro trainsets. The contract, worth €474 million, includes spare parts and tooling.

Five Alstom sites, all of which are located in France, will be involved in the contract. Manufacture and integration will be carried out at Valenciennes by Alstom Transport’s Centre of Excellence for metros, which will receive bogies delivered by the Le Creusot site, traction equipment from Tarbes and the on-board information system supplied by the Villeurbanne site.

The first metros will be delivered mid-June 2008; the last trains being scheduled for the end of 2010.

Over in Argentina, Alstom has been awarded a contract for the construction of a 465MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant. The deal brings the total of Alstom GT13E2 machines sold worldwide to 100.

The contract, with Argentinean aluminium company Aluar, covers the engineering, supply, erection and commissioning of the plant, which will supply electricity to Aluar’s smelters at its site in Puerto Madryn.

Alstom will also supply two gas treatment systems within the site’s pot room and anode bake furnace. The power plant is due to come into commercial operation in November 2007.
