Pluggable optics

XLoom Communications InfiniFlame 12X is claimed to be the industry's first front-panel pluggable optical module that can connect InfiniBand clusters.
The InfiniFlame 12X optical transmitter/receiver pair is a 12-channel InfiniBand-ready, optical interconnect module that supports speeds of up to 30Gbit/sec per port and features the XFP MSA mechanical interface, an industry-standard form factor.
The InfiniFlame 12X is hot pluggable, sports a power dissipation of 2.5W per transmitter/receiver pair, and has independent channel management using I(2)C interface as well as a standard MTP/MPO optical interface.
"We will be announcing InfiniFlame design wins with major switch vendors during first quarter 2006," said David Sachs, XLoom's Vice President for US Sales and Product Marketing.
InfiniFlame 12X samples will be available to selected customers during this quarter. General sampling will be available during the first quarter of 2006.
