The US Marine Corps has awarded communications and information technology company Harris a $212m Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract for its handheld and vehicular radios.

Harris has so far received two orders with a value of $158m, and was chosen to supply the marines with the JTRS-approved Falcon III Tactical Radios after a competitive bidding process.

The US Marine Corps will equip its Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle with Harris’s multiband, SINCGARS interoperable Falcon III AN/VRC-110 20 watt vehicular radio systems, which will include Falcon III AN/PRC-152 multiband handheld radios. Harris is already providing Falcon radio systems for the US Navy’s MRAP vehicles.

The AN/VRC-110 system is a multimission radio with the capability to provide UHF line-of-sight communications, close-air support and satellite communications, programmable encryption and software upgrades using JTRS Software Communications Architecture.

Harris is contracted to supply a maximum of 14,100 Falcon AN/VRC-110 systems over three years.
