Region Skåne adds to rail order

Bombardier has received an additional order worth $77 million from Region Skåne for the production and delivery of eight, three-car electric multiple units.

Bombardier Transportation

announced today that it received an additional order from Sweden’s Region Skåne for the production and delivery of eight, three-car electric multiple units.

The order is valued at approximately $77 million (approximately 58 million Euros). Region Skåne previously ordered a total of 32 Oeresund trains, which have been operating since the opening of the Oeresund bridge in July 2000.

The trains, which can reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h, are capable of crossing the bridge between Denmark and Sweden despite the different rail infrastructures used in the two countries. The trains automatically shift signalling and power systems when crossing the border thanks to a dual system integrated into the vehicles.

The vehicles and propulsion equipment will be designed by Bombardier in Sweden. Propulsion equipment will also be manufactured at Bombardier’s production site in Västerås. Cars will be produced in Germany at Bombardier’s Hennigsdorf and Görlitz production sites. Bogies also will be produced in German at facilities in Siegen.

The total number of Oeresund trains ordered by Region Skåne now stands at 40 three-car vehicles. The Danish State Railways, Blekingetrafiken, Länstrafiken Kronoberg, SJ and Hallandstrafiken have also ordered a total of 79 Oeresund trains, 56 of which have been delivered.
