Saab wins countermeasures order

Saab Avitronics has received an order worth 190 million SEK from Flight Refuelling to provide BOL 510 Countermeasures Dispensers for the Eurofighter Tranche 2 program.

The Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 2 contract will supply 236 aircraft to the Air forces of the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain; a further 18 aircraft will be delivered to the Austrian Air force.

The Saab BOL system is a countermeasures dispensing system, each BOL holding five times more chaff packages than conventional dispensers. Production will take place at Saab Avitronics in Järfälla, Sweden and deliveries of the units will start in April 2006 through to November 2011.

Saab BOL countermeasures dispenser system is currently in operational service on US Navy Tomcat, UK Harrier GR7 and

Air Force/Air National Guard's F-15 Eagle and Swedish JAS-39 Gripen. The system is currently under development for Royal Australian Air Force's F/A-18 Hornet.
