ABB has been awarded a $22m contract by the Brazilian utility Neoenergia to provide a substation solution that will improve power availability in Salvador, the country’s third-largest city.

to provide a substation solution that will improve power availability in Salvador, the country’s third-largest city.
When completed, the Narandiba substation will help meet growing domestic, commercial and industrial needs for electricity in the city.
ABB will be responsible for the design, construction, supply and installation of the new 230/69kV, 200MVA substation.
The main products include GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear), power transformers and a MicroSCADA-based substation automation system.
The substation automation system uses IEC 61850 communications standards, which are said to provide a common platform to help optimise maintenance and operating costs.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 2010.
