Samsung contracts Uhde in Saudi

Samsung Engineering of Seoul has commissioned Uhde, a member of ThyssenKrupp’s Technologies division, to provide the licence and engineering and supply services for a new ammonia plant in Saudi Arabia.

Under the contract, Uhde will provide process licence and basic engineering as well as special equipment for a single-train ammonia plant with a planned production capacity of 3,300 tonnes per day. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The ammonia plant is part of a Ras Az Zawr-based processing complex that also includes a sulphuric acid plant, a phosphoric acid plant and two diammonium phosphate plants. The engineering and construction contract for the complex was awarded to Samsung Engineering by Ma’aden, the Saudi Arabian mining company.

The integrated processing site will produce fertiliser from phosphates that are expected to be mined in the north of Saudi Arabia as part of a joint venture project between Ma’aden and Saudi Arabian Basic Industries (SABIC).
