Scotland welcomes first training rig

Engineering and tubular installation specialists Frank’s International, has installed an onshore drilling rig at its Aberdeen office base, where the company’s headquarters are also located.

The 32m rig, the first of its kind in the North East of Scotland, is dedicated to tubular installation technology training and the development of offshore mechanisation in the North Sea.

While the rig was commissioned as platform for hands-on safety training for Frank’s International’s offshore technicians as well as for the development of technology to improve well centre safety for tubular handling operations, Frank’s International hopes to roll out the use of the facility to other companies this year.

The rig was officially unveiled by Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond last month.
