to improve efficiency, output and reliability of 51 gas turbines.
The agreements include an 18-year contractual service agreement for the Koudiet Eddraouch power plant in El-Tarf province, 700km east of Algiers; and a six-year maintenance programme covering 48 gas turbines at 12 other Sonelgaz power plants across the country.
The Koudiet Eddraouch plant is expected to significantly increase Algeria’s current installed generation capacity.
The project is part of Sonelgaz’s plans to boost its production capacity to help meet Algeria’s growing power needs.
According to the Algerian ministry of energy and mining, in 2006 the country’s installed generating capacity was 7,077MW, while its need for power is growing more than seven per cent annually.
