Shaw to build chlor-alkali unit

Shaw Constructors has been awarded a contract to construct a chlor-alkali unit as part of Pioneer Companies expansion in St Gabriel, Louisiana.

Under the contract, Shaw will perform overall construction management and site construction work including, site preparation, architectural work, and the installation of foundations, mechanical equipment, piping systems, electrical components and instrumentation.

The project is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2008. The value of Shaw's contract was not disclosed.

Pioneer, based in Houston, manufactures chlorine, caustic soda, bleach, hydrochloric acid and related products used in a variety of applications, including water treatment, plastics, pulp and paper, detergents, agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals and medical disinfectants. Pioneer owns and operates four chlor-alkali plants and other downstream manufacturing facilities in the US and Canada.
