Siemens acquires sensor company
Siemens Automation and Drives has acquired German automated 3D sensor company Opto-Control Elektronik Prüfsysteme.

(A&D) has acquired German automated 3D sensor company
. Siemens will add Opto-Control’s high-precision automatic optical inspection (AOI) systems to its Siplace surface mount technology business.
Opto-Control’s AOI systems use 3D sensor technology to detect any solder or placement flaws in electronics manufacturing.
AOI systems help operators and process engineers to optimise their manufacturing processes and monitor the production output. Siemens plans to combine Opto-Control’s AOI systems with its SMT placement machines, enhancing the process reliability of its electronics manufacturing systems.
The newly acquired AOI systems business will be integrated into the Optical Solutions (OI) unit of A&D’s Electronics Assembly Systems division. Siemens says it wants to take advantage of this structure to equip its range of products with fully automated 3D inspection systems in the future.
