Siemens expands GSM in Pakistan

Siemens Networks is to expand the GSM network of Telenor Pakistan, the second largest mobile carrier in Pakistan, to increase capacity for expanding numbers of mobile phone subscribers.

The corresponding frame agreement is set to run for three years. Following the setup phase, Siemens will also operate the GSM network.

The Telenor Pakistan order was awarded to both Siemens and Nokia, and, with a potential total value of $750m, constitutes one of the largest frame agreements of this type ever awarded in this sector.

Under the terms of the contract, Telenor Pakistan has commissioned Siemens to plan, supply and implement the technologies for the radio network in the south of Pakistan, and to expand and modernise the core network nationwide. In addition, following the expansion phase, Siemens will take over network operation.
