Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution
(PTD) is to supply power system controls to equip Russia’s extra-high voltage power system in a deal worth €80m. The work will bring Russia’s national grid up to the standard required by the deregulated energy market and will be commissioned by the middle to end of 2008
The new Siemens system will replace the existing systems and add new functions. The system aims to increase the operating reliability of all equipment, give a reduction of overall network losses and improve usage of power plant capacity.
Russia has one of the largest and most complex power networks in the world, including the 220kV and 500kV extra-high voltage system. Siemens’ solution consists of a central power system control centre in Moscow and seven supraregional control centres distributed across the whole of Russia. Two of these supraregional control centres are configured as backup control centres for the central power system control centre.
In this new project, all data relating to the extra-high voltage network will be gathered centrally in the internationally standardised CIM format for the first time. These standards create the basis for expansions such as are to be expected in an increasingly deregulated energy market.
