' Logistics and Assembly Systems Group (L&A) has received an order from Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) to build a baggage handling system in the new Terminal 3 of Beijing International Airport.

The €170 million system is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2007. Siemens says the new Terminal 3 will increase the airport’s current capacity from 28 to 60 million passengers per year.

Siemens says it will construct one of the most modern baggage handling systems in the world for BCIA, comprising 330 check-in desks connected to a 50 kilometre, high-speed tub conveyor system. The system will be controlled by intelligent IT and automation systems to speed up baggage handling.

L&A is currently constructing two cargo systems in Southeast Asia and setting up a new baggage handling system at Seoul Airport Incheon.
