Siemens receives wind turbine orders

Siemens Energy has been awarded six wind turbine orders in North America with a total value of more than €600m (£560).

A quarter of the 250 turbines will be installed in Ontario, while the remainder are destined for California, Oklahoma, Washington and Wyoming. Overall, the wind turbines will provide 565MW of energy and have the capacity to power 170,000 homes.

Wolfgang Dehen, chief executive of Siemens Energy, said: ‘These orders prove that the wind industry’s fundamentals are still strong, even in times of an economic downturn. The continuing support for renewable energy from the administrations in the US and Canada is having a positive effect on wind project development.’

Siemens has become the third-largest wind turbine supplier to the North American market since it entered the wind market in 2004. In September, Siemens built a wind turbine assembly facility in Hutchinson, Kansas, to better meet the increasing demand for clean energy.
