Siemens secures power contracts

The Siemens Power Generation Group (PG) has secured orders for the turnkey construction of two power plants in Qatar and Dubai. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The purchaser of the plant in Qatar is a consortium comprising Qatar Electricity & Water Company, International Power and Chubu Electric Power. The second order was placed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). Siemens PG will also supply key components for the El Kureimat gas turbine power plant in Egypt.

As consortium leader, Siemens PG will partner with South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction to build the Ras Laffan B combined cycle power plant in Qatar.

The Siemens PG scope of supply encompasses three gas turbines, two steam turbines, and the associated electrical, and instrumentation and control equipment. Commercial operation is scheduled for May 2008. The plant will then have an installed capacity of approximately 1000 MW and the seawater desalination plant supplied by Doosan will produce approximately 27,500 cubic metres of drinking water daily.
