Siemens supplies steel mill
Chinese steel producer Jiuquan Iron & Steel Group has placed an order for a four-high skin-pass mill with Siemens’ Industrial Solutions and Services Group

Chinese steel producer
(Jisco) has placed an order for a four-high skin-pass mill with
(I&S) Group. The order is worth around $11m and the skin pass mill is scheduled to start operating in June 2009.
Jiuquan Iron & Steel Group has an annual production capacity of 2.2 million tonnes of hot metal and the same amount of crude steel, as well as 2.6 million tonnes of rolled steel, making it the most important producer in the northwest of China.
Jisco is currently building a new cold-rolling mill at the Jiayuguan location, which with the four-high skin pass mill will produce new steel grade products. Strips in widths up to 1680mm will be processed on the skin-pass mill; with a maximum coil weight of 31 tonnes.
Siemens is responsible for planning the skin-pass mill and supplying key components of the mechanical equipment as well as all of the electrical, automation and processing systems. Siemens is also responsible for the installation of all components and commissioning of the skin-pass mill.
