Cheshire, UK, 16th September 2008: Jewellery designers and manufacturers will find plenty of reasons to attend this year’s TCT Conference & Exhibition at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, 21/22nd October 2008.
Like all businesses, the Jewellery sector is very competitive, so keeping abreast with new technology is vital. During this two-day event there will be a range of exhibits showcasing the very latest technologies that can be utilised in the jewellery and high-value goods sector. Complementing the exhibition is a free of charge Technology for Jewellery Seminar Day, on October 22nd, with presentations from renowned experts in the industry.
The seminar day is supported by the Goldsmiths’ Company and the Jewellery Industry Innovation Centre at Birmingham City University. It will be chaired by Peter Taylor, Director Technology & Training at the Goldsmiths’ Company and will also feature presentations from Frank Cooper and Gay Penfold of the JICC. Founder and Head of Design at Pheonix Designs, Fei Liu, will also present with a paper entitled, ‘The Impact of Technology on the Jewellery Sector.’
The afternoon sessions will focus on the technology itself supported by case studies and examples of actual projects. Presentations will be given from leading companies including: Envisiontec, Unimatic Engineers, EOS (UK), and Delcam.
The full programme is designed to showcase how groundbreaking Rapid Product Development and Micro Manufacturing technologies are being utilised in this sector and will take designers through the full design-to-market cycle, from effective use of CAD (computer aided design), to prototyping models, casting, micro cutting, milling and welding. The seminars will even demonstrate how to scan life-sized objects in order to capture its geometry in a design.
Within the exhibition hall some of the most pioneering companies are demonstrating their equipment. On stand E12/14, 3D Systems will be showcasing its comprehensive range of solid imaging systems and advanced materials enabling jewellery manufacturers to convert their 3-D CAD data to high quality models and patterns in a few hours. ACSYS Lasers is showing on stand C26/D25, a Piranha with its own Live Adjust, camera system. These compact machines are used to directly mark, create marking stamps, cut out parts and create images/stone location points.
The new release of ArtCAM JewelSmith 2009, on Delcam’s stand D20, is designed specifically for artisans and enables jewellers to design and manufacture highly intricate personalised or custom jewellery. Huntsman, on stand F2/G1, will be exhibiting the Araldite 2000 PLUS adhesives range. Used by jewellery manufacturers worldwide, it enhances the bonding of Marcasite stones into a variety of pieces including rings, earrings, brooches and necklaces.
The Roland DG JWX-30 Jewellers Milling Machine, on stand D15, has been specifically developed to increase productivity, creativity and profitability, reducing the often time-consuming elements involved in designing and creating jewellery. On stand C17, Vision Engineering will be exhibiting the Mantis range of Stereo Viewers. These patented eyepieceless optical magnifiers are designed to maximise comfort when working under magnification making them an ideal tool for professional jewellery technicians who spend hours working with intricate pieces of jewellery.
Photo-Chemical Machining (PCM) — a high precision manufacturing technique — will be showcased by Tecan on stand B5. This technology was recently used to help produce a niche range of jewellery commissioned by the Tate Modern.
The combination of leading technology companies alongside the free of charge educational seminar sessions means that TCT really is the show to visit for the most up to date information and innovative equipment in the jewellery and high-value goods sector.
