Techne fluidised sand baths are being used increasingly when very precise control of heat treatment processes is required, particularly when special alloys used for applications such as medical and orthodontic implants are involved.
The Techne sand baths, by Barloworld Scientific, consist of a container filled with dry inert aluminium oxide sand which is heated by rod elements and fluidised by a stream of clean dry air, separating and suspending the particles so that they flow like a boiling liquid. The fluidised particles distribute heat quickly, evenly and effectively throughout the bath.
