Telent wins cable contract for German waterways
Telent, formerly the UK and German services business of Marconi, has won a major order to extend the communications network of The German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration.

and German services business of Marconi, has won a major order to extend the communications network of The German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) in
and
.
The WSV operates a licence-free communications network for the federal waterways. This network comprises line-conducted transmission technology and switching systems, and supports voice, video and data. A further connection is to be provided to remotely control locks.
The order is for more than 80km of optical-fibre cable, as well as the installation and commissioning of a system which includes SDH-OMS 1654 multiplexers, enabling transmission speeds of 624Mbit/s over a single fibre pair.
All the network elements will be monitored and configured by a central Service on Access (SoA) management system.
