The planes from Shanghai

Alcoa has received a multiyear contract from the Chinese aircraft manufacturer Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Factory (SAMF) to provide aluminium extrusions for the horizontal stabiliser, tail section assembly of the Boeing 737.

's Global Extruded and End Products business has received a multiyear contract (2005-2009) from the Chinese aircraft manufacturer Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Factory (SAMF) to provide aluminium extrusions for the horizontal stabiliser tail section assembly of the Boeing 737.

This is the second contract in China that Alcoa Global Extruded and End Products has received for assembly of the Boeing 737. Last December, Alcoa announced it was supplying Xian Aircraft with extrusions for the vertical tail assembly of the 737 from 2005 to 2007.

Alcoa will produce a total of 650,000 pounds of hard alloy aluminium extrusions a year at its Lafayette, Indiana, facility in the US and at its Changwon Precision Extrusions plant in South Korea for shipment to SAMF, starting immediately.

China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC) will act as the import agent for SAMF under the agreement.
