Turbine deal
Areva is to supply eighty of its M5000 turbines for the offshore Global Tech 1 wind farm in the German North Sea.
French energy company Areva's Multibrid subsidiary has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Germany's Wetfeet Offshore Windenergy to supply eighty of its M5000 turbines for the offshore Global Tech 1 wind farm.
Under the terms of the agreement, Areva will also provide commissioning, testing and maintenance services.
The order for the turbines is worth more than €700m (£650m). In addition, an option for the delivery of further wind turbines was mentioned in the MoU.
The Global Tech 1 wind farm is located 90km from the coast in the German North Sea and, once operational, will generate 1.4bn kWh per year.
The delivery of the Areva 5MW M5000 turbines is scheduled for 2011-12.
