The two units, derivatives of Pratt & Whitney’s JT8D aircraft engine, will be used as a simple cycle power plant at the Gardabani Power Station in southeastern Georgia. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The natural gas-powered units will produce a total 110 megawatts of power, with each unit generating 55 megawatts. They are expected to enter operation at year-end.
The FT8 has been in production since 1991 and operates at more than 70 sites around the world, with nearly 250 units installed or on order. The FT8 is said to have a fleet reliability level greater than 99 percent and has accumulated nearly two million hours of operation.
