Danish wind turbine builder Vestas has received an order for 67 units of its V90 3.0MW turbines, which will be installed at Horizon Wind Energy’s Meridian Way Wind Farm located in north-central Kansas near Concordia.
Meridian Way is being developed and will be constructed, owned and operated by Horizon Wind Energy, a wind project developer based in Houston, Texas.
Horizon itself is a fully owned subsidiary of Energias de Portugal, a major Portuguese utility and one of the world’s largest generators of electricity from renewable energy sources.
Vestas will supply and commission the turbines, as well as provide engineering support through a five-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery of the 67 wind turbines will begin in mid-year 2008, and commissioning is expected to be completed in 2008.
The Meridian Way Wind Farm is Vestas’ largest order for the V90-3.0 MW wind turbine in North America to date.
