University College London has celebrated the opening of its £11.4m Engineering Front Building in an official ceremony attended by former minister for science, Lord Sainsbury.

University College London (UCL) has celebrated the opening of its £11.4m Engineering Front Building in an official ceremony attended by former minister for science, Lord Sainsbury.

The building (pictured below) is designed to be a centre for collaboration between the university and the business community.

It will house UCL's new Department of Management Science and Innovation, as well as the university’s entrepreneurship centre, UCL Advances.

The new department will teach around 2,000 students research and business topics, while UCL Advances will provide non-degree education on the commercial aspects of innovation for engineers and researchers.

Features of the building include a first-floor teaching space dedicated to training businesses in technology management and an exhibition space currently being used to showcase a solar car designed and built in UCL Mechanical Engineering.
