UK aerospace backed by £250m funding package

The government has announced a £250m investment in advanced aerospace technologies that it said will drive greener air travel and support the sector’s future.

Revealed at the Paris Air Show, the funding package has been billed as a ‘joint industrial investment’ in partnership with major aerospace players including Rolls-Royce and Airbus. Technologies that will benefit from the cash boost range from gas turbines and hydrogen-powered flight to the use of lasers for large-scale aerostructure manufacturing.

“This is the latest win for British aerospace in the run-up to the launch of our Industrial Strategy, which will turbocharge growth in our advanced manufacturing and defence sectors to take them to new heights, bringing new high-skilled jobs to every corner of the UK,” said industry minister Sarah Jones. 

Some of the headline projects receiving shares of the funding are:

·      ZEROe Development Centre Capital and Infrastructure Phase 2 (ZEDC) - Airbus - £35m
Infrastructure for testing liquid hydrogen fuel systems and structural components to support zero-emission aircraft technologies
