Up to 1,000 new jobs to be created as Aston Martin invests £200m in new products and facilities

Around 1,000 new jobs will be created at Aston Martin following confirmation of a new manufacturing plant in Wales for the DBX crossover and production of the DB11 and RapidE in Gaydon.

The new positions will be created across the new facility at St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan and Gaydon between 2016 and 2020, with an additional 3,000 jobs likely to be created through the supply chain and local businesses.

“I am delighted to officially welcome Aston Martin to Wales,” said Carwyn Jones, First Minister of Wales. “We have been working closely with the company for almost two years in the face of fierce competition from other potential sites across the world.”

Set on 90 acres, the new Aston Martin facility at St Athan will re-purpose some of the facilities currently in use at the site by the Ministry of Defence to produce the DBX concept crossover vehicle.

Construction work to transform three existing ‘super-hangers’ is planned to commence in 2017 with full vehicle production commencing in 2020. It is expected that over 90% of the production from St Athan will be exported outside of the United Kingdom.
