Wayne Baxter appointed as new Chair Elect of The 61508 Association
Wayne Baxter, a director of the Manchester-based engineering company, Haden Freeman, has been named as the new Chair Elect of the industry safety group, The 61508 Association. He will commence the prestigious role in March 2007 and will be responsible for promoting compliance with BS EN 61508 and related standards for end users and for total supply chains.
The 61508 Association is a cross-industry group of companies with an interest in achieving a workable method for demonstrating compliance with BS EN 61508 and related standards. It brings together parties with an interest in functional safety and ensures understanding and competence in its use. It has a diverse range of members, spanning a range of sectors including process, energy, transport and factory automation.
Wayne Baxter, said: “I’m delighted to be appointed as the Committee Chair Elect. I’ve long had a passion for Functional Safety and have led many projects to develop workable methods for implementing the safety standard for a wide range of

He has extensive experience gained in the chemical, electrical and pharmaceutical sectors and is currently setting up a new consultancy business for Haden Freeman, covering Functional Safety for the Group, which will run alongside its Risk Services and PICME divisions, and he is also trailing Safety Data Networks for a number of high profile clients.
