Raytheon has been awarded a contract worth potentially $71 million over 54 months, with an initial contract award of $9.3 million, for Phase 2 of the Joint Environmental Toolkit (JET) programme.
The contract was awarded by the Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. The Raytheon-led team was awarded Phase 1 of the programme in July 2004.
The objective of JET programme is to replace legacy weather systems with a single, integrated system providing tailored weather tools to users and interfacing with command and control systems. It will also integrate with, and possibly eventually replace, the current US Air Force Weather Weapon System.
The programme will deliver a scalable hardware and software system to provide consistency and meet Air Force and Army needs for weather forecast generation, meteorological watch, and observation management, with increased accuracy and decreased response times.
Mike Keebaugh, president of Raytheon's Intelligence and Information Systems business, said, "The JET programme is critical to providing a network-centric environment in support of the warfighter's mission."
