Your article ‘Steering group’ (News, 8 May) and the points made by John Finn (letters, same issue) both made for interesting reading, and bode well for the future. Having flirted with ‘weighing’ trucks on-board in the 1980s using loadcells/load detectors, the intricacies of the subject cannot be underestimated.
It is encouraging to see such high-level companies in the CVDC (including one of my past employers) with a focused objective that will benefit the industry, the country — and a part of the planet.
I still feel as I did in the 1980s that load distribution and balance across the truck’s platform is key to fundamental stability, much like correct nose weight is with a modern caravan on to the tow bar of a car.
I trust CVDC will look at the basics as well as the fine tuning.
We should all look forward to the fruits of their research, and to keeping the M5/M6 flowing.
