What’s more, many of these jobs are in London, away from the existing midlands hubs of car manufacturing. And while mechanics currently play a vital role in the sector, EVs will demand more software engineers. According to The Institute of the Motor Industry, only one per cent of current motor mechanics are qualified to work on electric vehicles in the UK.
