LDK Solar has awarded Fluor a $1bn contract for front-end engineering and design (FEED) and engineering, procurement and construction-management (EPCM) services for a polysilicon plant in Xinyu City, China.
The polysilicon production plant will be located next to LDK Solar’s existing solar wafer manufacturing factory in XinyuCity. LDK Solar, a manufacturer of multicrystalline solar wafers, expects to complete construction and reach production capacity of up to 6,000 tonnes of polysilicon by the end of 2008, and 15,000 tonnes by the end of 2009.
‘Fluor maintains a strong presence in the polysilicon market, and this project is important to our continued strength in the industry, as well as our growing operations in China,’ said David Seaton, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemical’s Group.
Fluor’s offices in Greenville, South Carolina, and Shanghai will carry out the work agreed in the contract.
