VersaLogic has announced the release of a new version of its “Gecko” EPIC format single board computer designed for extreme temperature conditions.
The new Gecko version is qualified for operation from –40 degrees to +85 degrees C, which VersaLogic says is ideal for space-constrained environments with limited cooling available. Potential applications include medical devices, security equipment, industrial machinery, aerospace projects, and transportation systems.
The design is based on the newer AMD GX-500 processor, which offers 500 MHz equivalent performance while drawing about 1.5W. The low power consumption results in minimal heat dissipation, so no fan is required.
The Gecko’s features include up to 512 MB DDR RAM, integrated video with analogue and LVDS flat panel outputs, stereo line in/out, 10/100 Ethernet, analogue and digital I/O, 4 USB ports, 4 COM ports, LPT and IDE interfaces, and a CompactFlash socket. The PC/104-Plus site accommodates both PC/104 and PC/104-Plus modules for system expansion.
The Gecko Extended temperature single board computer includes features such as TVS devices for ESD protection, self-resetting fuses for the user I/O, and a watchdog timer for hardware-level application control.
The Gecko (part number EPIC-2e) is currently available from stock and includes VersaLogic’s five-year availability guarantee. Pricing starts at $673 in OEM quantities.
