The US Army has placed a $127 million order for 103 additional Stryker wheeled combat vehicles from General Dynamics Land Systems. This order brings the Army’s Stryker procurement to a total of 409 vehicles over the 2006 fiscal year.
The US Army also awarded the company a $9.5 million contract modification to procure additional parts for Stryker vehicle battle damage repair.
Stryker is a family of eight-wheel-drive combat vehicles that can travel at speeds up to 62mph (100kph) and is a key vehicle in the US Army Transformation programme.
The US Army placed an order for 306 Strykers in April. To date, General Dynamics has delivered more than 1,500 Strykers to the US Army.
A lighter and more transportable alternative to existing tanks and armoured vehicles, Stryker is used to transport strategically deployable and operationally deployable brigades.
