IAE International Aero Engines
announced yesterday that
low cost carrier,
Germanwings, has selected IAE’s V2500 engines to power up to 30 Airbus A319 aircraft.
The contract is made up of 18 firm orders and 12 options. If all options are realised the contract, including aftermarket agreements, will be worth more than $500 million to IAE.
Germanwings has operated a fleet of 22 powered Airbus A320 family aircraft since its launch nearly three years ago and plans to use the additional aircraft to reach more than 39 destinations throughout
The 22,000-33,000lb of thrust V2500-A5 is available in seven different thrust settings to power the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 family of aircraft as well as the A319 Corporate Jet.
More than 1,300 V2500-powered aircraft have been delivered and the worldwide fleet has accumulated over 33 million flying hours.
